The latest September video game show held in Japan a few days ago showcased works from more than 80 independent developers around the world. One of them is the fighting game The King of Fighters AFK designed for Android and iOS platforms.
The game was exhibited at the booth of the Japanese company SNK and is believed to be part of the KOF series, incorporating RPG elements and focusing on character collection. The development of the game is handled by Netmarble Neo in South Korea and authorized by the copyright owner, so it can be determined that the game is officially licensed and directly related to this classic series.
At present, The King of Fighters AFK has established an official website and released a trailer on YouTube, but the release date has not yet been determined and pre-registration has not yet been announced.
Based on the information currently available, we know that:
- The game will include many classic KOF characters from different games, redesigned from the perspective of dot graphics. Given the large number of characters, collecting these characters should become a really exciting part of the gameplay. As for the visuals, all characters should be styled similarly to the Neo Geo Pocket Color.
- The developers promise a completely new combat system, unprecedented in the previous KOF series, focusing on strategy and character development. It is believed that players will experience an all-out battle with a retro arcade style.
- AFK itself suggests that players can level up their characters without directly participating in the game, leaving it running in the background or offline.
Netmarble Neo did not announce any major news, but invited all interested parties to follow the company’s official website and YouTube channel for the latest news.
